Phellodendron amurense
Distinguishing Features: Corky and ridged bark, black or green berries
- Type: Deciduous
- Form at maturity: Grows to between 30 - 45 feet tall, significantly wider than tall, broad branching, frequently become almost flat-topped with maturity
- Leaf: Opposite and pinnately compound, 5 to 11 leaflets per leaf, leaves are 10 to 15 inches long, leaflets are 2.5 to 4.5 inches long, lustrous dark green colored in summer and yellow colored in autumn
- Flower: Greenish-yellow flower which are dioecious, with male and female plants
- Bark: Conspicuously ridged and furrowed, gray colored bark is soft and cork-like to the touch
- Fruit or Seed: Fleshy pea-sized fruits (1/2 inches diameter drupes) held in clusters, mature to black in fall
