Distinguishing Features: Single-winged seeds in sparse clusters
- Type: Deciduous
- Form at maturity: 60 to 70 feet tall, 45 feet wide, oval, upright crown
- Leaf: Opposite leaf arrangement, odd pinnately compound, decidious leaves, each with 5-9 leaflets. Oval to oblong-lanceolate leaflets (3-4 inches long). Leaflets are medium green above and below, yellow fall color
- Flower: Dioecious, Clusters of apetulous green to reddish-purple male and female flowers
- Bark: Gray-brown bark develops distinctive diamond-shaped ridging on mature trees
- Fruit or Seed: Samaras are 1 to 2 inches long and narrow, winged, paddle-shaped, color changes from green to tan as they mature
