Distinguishing Features: Needles curve in towards the stem, turns bronze during winter, round spiky cones

- Leaf: Evergreen, spirally arranged, awl-shaped needles, needles are 4-angled and curve inward with a slight twist, dark green to bluish-green color; glossy, foliage develops a distinct bronze to brown color during cold months
- Flower: Inconspicuous, monoecious, with male and female flowers
- Bark: Reddish-brown, it shreds in long strips
- Fruit or Seed: Terminal cones are produced, cones are 0.5 to 1 inch in diameter and are globe-shaped, color is dark brown
