Distinguishing Features: Bright cinnamon brown smooth bark, multiple trunks

- Form at maturity: 20 to 25 feet tall, pyrimidial crown when young, open and multi-trunked when mature
- Leaf: 1.5 to 3" alternate, simple leaves; red to maroon fall color
- Flower: small, white, cupped flowers
- Bark: Smooth and cinnamon-brown
- Fruit or Seed: A .5 to 1 inch dry, five-valved capsule, with one to four seeds in each section
