Distinguishing Features: 1 to 3 inch thorns along stems, bright red beries
- Type: Deciduous
- Form at maturity: 25 to 30 feet tall, 20 to 25 feet wide, broad, rounded tree
- Leaf: Simple, lobed leaves, alternate leaf arrangement, leaves emerge reddish and mature to a dark green color, orange to red color in fall, serrated leaf margins, 1 inches to 3 inches long
- Flower: White, 5-petaled flowers in clusters (corymbs) , 0.5 inch in diameter
- Bark: Bark is brown in color, 1 to 3 inches long thorns along stems
- Fruit or Seed: Bright red 1/4 inch diameter globose fruits (pomes)
